In response to the heightened threat of terrorism and increased levels of theft and loss of valuables, the U.S. military is exploring ways to produce high-end, fortified vehicles that will be suitable for all types of emergencies. These vehicles are normally transported by U.S. soldiers into combat zones and on to bases across the globe. Vehicles that are involved in counterinsurgency or irregular warfare will also require extensive armor in order to provide sufficient protection against enemy fire and to survive attacks from above and below. Asymmetric armored vehicle manufacturing allows such operations to continue despite battlefield obstacles. For example, some armored personnel carriers have been constructed with bulletproof windows in order to provide maximum protection against gunfire.
